Connecting Unity Connection

What it is for

Cisco Unity Connection is the voicemail system on the CUCM. EasyUC accesses it through the CUPI REST interface (path /vmrest) and shows users with a mailbox, their greetings and messages, and the system call handlers. EasyUC reads the service status of the Unity nodes through Cisco Serviceability. This part of the interface is labelled in German in version 4.8.7, also when the interface language is English. Labels and messages are quoted as shown.

You set up the connection once in the dashboard. It is bound to the active CUCM connection and stored encrypted. As soon as it exists, EasyUC also uses it for the voicemail functions in the user profile and in the Voicemails list. The older voicemail entry in the CUCM connection is then no longer used for this cluster.

Prerequisites

The CUCM module is active on the appliance.
Setting up or changing the connection: administrators only (ROLE_APP_ADMIN, ROLE_OWNER, ROLE_ADMIN or ROLE_SUPER_ADMIN).
Reading without an administrator role: ROLE_APP_UNITY_CONNECTION and, per area, ROLE_APP_UNITY_DASHBOARD, ROLE_APP_UNITY_USERS or ROLE_APP_UNITY_CALL_HANDLERS. Changing greetings: additionally ROLE_APP_UNITY_GREETINGS_EDIT.
On Unity Connection: a web administrator with access to the REST API. The same account is used for the service query.
The Unity nodes are reachable from the appliance over HTTPS. The service query uses port 8443 of the nodes that the cluster itself reports.
An active CUCM connection is selected in the header.

Step by step: store the connection

Select EasyUC Cisco at the top and check in the header the CUCM connection this Unity belongs to.
Open Unity Connection → Dashboard.
In the Unity-Verbindung card, click Verbindung einrichten (set up connection). Until then the card shows Noch nicht eingerichtet.
Under Hostname oder IP-Adresse, enter the Unity publisher, for example unity01.intern. Without https://, port or path.
Enter Web-Administrator and Passwort.
Leave TLS-Zertifikat überprüfen switched on if Unity uses a certificate from a trusted certification authority.
Click Verbindung speichern. EasyUC reports Verbindung gespeichert. Die Übersicht wird neu geladen.

Step by step: read the dashboard

Open Unity Connection → Dashboard.
Read the tiles for users, System Call Handler, Cluster-Hosts and Standardsprache (default language). Benutzerverzeichnis anzeigen and Anrufsteuerung ansehen take you to the lists.
Check Grundeinstellungen des Clusters (basic cluster settings) and Installierte Sprachen (installed languages). The default language is marked Standard.
Under Hosts und Services, check the list of services with their status for each node.
Click Aktualisieren to reload. Stand: gives the time of the query.

Passwort	Password of the account. It is stored encrypted and not displayed again.

Hosts und Services	Per node: name, address, role and the services with status. If the status is missing, it reads Für diesen Host ist kein Service-Status verfügbar.

Check the result and narrow down errors

Success: the Unity-Verbindung card shows the host, and the tiles show numbers.

Unity verweigert den Zugriff. Benutzerrolle und API-Berechtigungen prüfen. Check the role of the account on Unity Connection.
Unity ist nicht erreichbar oder die TLS-Prüfung ist fehlgeschlagen. Check network path, firewall and certificate.
Die globale Unity-Verbindung ist an einen anderen CUCM-Cluster gebunden. Switch to the matching CUCM connection in the header or save the connection again there.
Cisco Serviceability auf diesem Clusterhost ist nicht erreichbar. The service status of a node is missing. Check that the node is reachable on port 8443.
Die Benutzerzahl umfasst Mailbox-Benutzer. Die separate Liste der Administrationskonten benötigt Unity 12.5 SU3 oder neuer und passende Rechte. Notice in the dashboard with older Unity versions.
After a certificate replacement on Unity the connection can fail because EasyUC remembered the certificate at first contact. In that case, contact the operators of the appliance.
