Applying an EasyUC update

What it is for

From version 4.8.7 an EasyUC release comes as a single file: easyuc-<version>-amd64.eucpkg. It contains the container image with all application services and the signature. You drop the file on the Manager page EasyUC-Update. The Manager verifies signature and content and distributes the image to all nodes in the background while EasyUC keeps running normally.

The switch-over only starts with Installieren…: the Manager backs up the database, switches to the new version, runs the database migrations, restarts the services and checks each service individually. If one of these steps fails after the switch, the Manager returns to the previous version by itself.

This path works without internet access for the appliance. You download the file from the customer portal on a workstation and transfer it to the Manager in the browser. The Manager itself is not changed.

Prerequisites

EasyUC Manager 1.15.0 or later. Older Managers do not have the EasyUC-Update page, see the chapter "Updating the EasyUC Manager".
Installed EasyUC version 4.8.5 or later. Bring older systems to 4.8.5 first.
K3s 1.34.0 or later, all nodes with amd64 architecture and in state Ready.
Free storage per node: unpacked image plus package size plus 5 GiB. The check card shows per node how much space remains up to the limit.
The package file easyuc-<version>-amd64.eucpkg from the customer portal. A .sha256 file next to it lets you verify the download. Size of a full package: about 1.6 to 2.2 GB; upload limit 4 GiB.
A login to the Manager and the Manager password. The installation asks for it again.
Recommended: a current full backup and VM snapshots before the maintenance window.

Step by step: upload the package and have it verified

Open the EasyUC-Update page in the Manager. The running version is shown at the top right under Installiert.
Drag the file onto the area EasyUC-Update-Datei hierher ziehen or select klicken zum Auswählen.
Wait for the upload. The page shows the amount transferred, the speed and the remaining time. Anhalten pauses it; to resume, drop the same file again.
After the upload the check card appears with "Signatur und Inhalt werden geprüft …". Wait until the state changes to geprüft.
On the check card, review Signatur (valid, with the name of the key), the line on the Teams/ACD restart, the note on Datenbank-Migrationen and the Release Notes.
Watch the Server table: columns Ready, Platz bis zur Grenze and Vorbereitet. Distribution starts by itself. Guideline: about 15 minutes per node, 45 to 60 minutes with three nodes.

Step by step: install

On the check card, select Installieren…. This is possible while preparation is still running; the installation then waits until all servers are prepared.
In the dialog EasyUC <version> installieren, read Version, Signatur, Paket and Dauer nach dem Klick.
Read the section "Unterbrechung aller EasyUC-Dienste" and the section Ungünstigster Fall.
Enter the Manager-Passwort. The confirmation is valid for five minutes and only for this one installation.
Select Jetzt installieren.
Follow the timeline: Vorprüfung, Sicherung, Umschalten, Datenbank-Migration, Neustart der Dienste, Prüfung, Fertig. The Manager page stays reachable meanwhile.
Wait for the message "EasyUC <version> ist installiert, alle Prüfungen sind bestanden." The measured interruption is shown below it.
Log in to the admin interface and check the most important functions (login, CUCM connection, a test call through ACD or Teams).

Installiert	Running EasyUC version.
Package state	wird geprüft, geprüft, abgelehnt, Server werden vorbereitet, bereit zur Installation, Vorbereitung unvollständig.
Vorabversion	Marks a package from the pre-release channel. Managers with default settings do not accept such packages.
Signatur	"gültig" with key name and type. Signatures that are not taken into account are listed below with the reason, for example "unbekannter Schlüssel".
Teams/ACD-Neustart	"ja": ACD media, Teams SBC or Teams PS restart, and running calls through Teams/ACD are disconnected. "nein": these services keep running unchanged. With 4.8.7 they restart once.
Datenbank-Migrationen	"ja": a later rollback also resets the database to the state immediately before the installation. "nein": rollback is possible without the database.
Platz bis zur Grenze	Free space of the node up to the permitted usage, next to it the space the import needs.
Vorbereitet	State per node: waiting, being prepared (with a phase such as downloading, checking, importing, unpacking), prepared, failed.
Erneut verteilen	Triggers distribution to the missing nodes again.
Verwerfen	Deletes the package and removes images that only belong to this package from all nodes.
Abbrechen (in the run)	Only possible before the switch. EasyUC then stays unchanged on the previous version.
Ohne Rückkehrmöglichkeit installieren…	Only appears when the images of the installed version are missing on at least one node. In that case there is no automatic rollback after an error.
Duration	According to the 4.8.7 release notes: installation 10 to 20 minutes after the click, expected interruption 5 to 10 minutes. With automatic rollback up to about 1 hour 45 minutes; in the extreme case the time limits allow about 4 hours.

Check the result and troubleshoot

The Versionen area lists the new version with "aktuell" and the status "installiert". The section "Prüfung je Dienst" shows each service with its result.
"Paket abgelehnt – es wird nicht installiert." with a reason: signature, version or content do not match. Download the file again from the customer portal and compare the SHA-256 checksum.
"… ist keine EasyUC-Update-Datei. Erwartet wird eine Datei easyuc-<version>-amd64.eucpkg aus dem Kundenportal.": the wrong file was selected.
"Nicht genug Platz für das Update: …": the node of the Manager lacks storage. Discard old packages or enlarge the disk.
"Vorbereitung unvollständig (n von m Servern)": a node is not ready or has too little space. Read the cause in the row of the node, fix it and select Erneut verteilen.
"Verteilung pausiert: …": the Manager is waiting, for example because a node is not ready. Distribution continues by itself.
"Es gibt bereits einen angefangenen Upload … Der Manager nimmt nur einen Upload gleichzeitig an.": drop the same file to resume or select Verwerfen.
"Passwort falsch." or "Zu viele Fehlversuche. Bitte in … Sekunden erneut versuchen.": check the password and wait for the lockout to end.
"Installation fehlgeschlagen – vorheriger Stand wiederhergestellt.": the Manager has rolled back automatically. The reason is shown below. Under Versionen, Erneut installieren starts a new attempt.
"Fehlgeschlagen – Eingriff nötig.": the page names the next steps and the names of the internal backups. Contact EasyUC support with this information.
"EasyUC-Update ist in diesem Manager nicht aktiviert": the function is switched off in the Manager configuration.
