EasyUC for Cisco
Key layout: lines, speed dial and BLF
Assign the line keys of a phone: numbers, speed dial, BLF, number of lines and key modules.
In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Users → Users → User profile → Phones & Phone numbers → Phone Buttons Support
Images come from the EasyUC lab. Names and example values provide orientation. A different interface language is indicated beside the relevant image.
What it is for
The Phone Buttons Support dialog shows the keys of a Cisco phone as they are arranged on the device. There you define which phone number is on which line key and assign speed dial destinations or busy lamp fields (BLF) to the remaining keys.
Which function a key can have is determined in the CUCM by the phone button template of the phone. EasyUC reads this template, shows each position with its type and, on saving, writes lines, speed dials and BLF entries to the device. For phones you select only the Number of lines. EasyUC then selects the matching phone button template for model, location and package itself. For device profiles (Extension Mobility) you select the template directly.
Keys of add-on modules appear in a separate area. Positions that the template knows but the phone does not offer in the current line mode remain visible as locked and are not lost on saving.
Prerequisites
- Licence module
cucmand an active CUCM connection. - Role
ROLE_APP_UPDATE_DEVICE. Without this role the Phone Buttons Support button is missing. - The device is a phone or a device profile of the Cisco series 6xxx, 7xxx, 8xxx or 9xxx. EasyUC does not offer the button for softphones, analogue ports and video devices.
- For phones: the CUCM contains phone button templates with the required number of lines for the model. With Template 2.0 they are stored per location under Templates → IP Phones & Video. If EasyUC cannot determine a number of lines, the dialog reports that the verified line counts are not available.
- For new lines: free numbers in the number plan of the location or existing CUCM lines.
- To remove a line with Create virtual device, additionally
ROLE_APP_CREATE_DEVICE.
Step by step: open the dialog and define the number of lines
Step by step: assign keys and save
Step by step: remove a line from a key
Fields and options
| Field / action | Meaning and use |
|---|---|
| Line mode | Shows how many line keys the phone offers. Enhanced Line Mode means ten keys, Session Line Mode five. This applies to 8811, 8841, 8845, 8851, 8861 and 8865 and comes from the CUCM parameter lineMode. Other models show Model-defined key layout, device profiles Device Profile. |
| Number of lines | Phones only. Selection of the number of lines. EasyUC selects the configured phone button template for it. The change is applied only with Save. |
| Phone Template | Device profiles only. Selection of the phone button template. A new template is loaded immediately, key values only with Save. Cancel restores the original template. |
| Location / Package | Determine which line counts and which number ranges are offered. For device profiles the field is called Select Location if you want to add additional lines. |
| Line (key type) | Line key. Shows number and Partition. A changed assignment carries the note “The line assignment is applied after Save.” |
| Speed Dial (key type) | Fields Number and Label. The entry is saved only if both fields are filled. |
| Speed Dial BLF (key type) | Fields Destination or number selection, Label and the Call Pickup tick. Saving requires label and destination. |
| None (key type) | The selected button template does not provide a function for this position. The position cannot be assigned. |
| Number plan / Existing CUCM lines | Selection mode in the number window. Number plan shows free numbers, user assignments and existing lines. Existing CUCM lines searches all lines of the active CUCM connection for which you are authorised. |
| Add On Module(s) | Keys of the connected key modules, with module number and module name. The figure Key modules shows the number of modules. |
| Template safeguard | Positions of the template that are not active on this phone in the current line mode. They are kept on saving but cannot be edited. |
| Create key template | Appears for device profiles if the current template has too few line keys for the location. In the Button Template dialog you assign a name with the fixed prefix EASY-UC-, select a standard button template and drag entries with the mouse from Button Types into the Button Template. |
| Phone keys assigned | Summary in the footer, for example “4 of 10 phone keys assigned”. For touch models the figure is called Programmable positions. |
Check the result and troubleshoot
- After saving, the phone card in the profile shows the new lines. In the number list the key is shown for the number under On phones, for example
L2. - On the registered phone, new keys appear after the configuration has been applied. If the display remains old, restart the phone with Restart.
- “Verified line counts are currently unavailable. You can still save the current key layout.” EasyUC could not determine any line counts for device and location. Check the selected location and the phone button templates of the model.
- “This count does not provide enough room for the lines already assigned.” First remove lines from the upper keys or select a higher number.
- “The configured template could not be loaded.” The assigned phone button template is missing in the CUCM or does not match the model. Until this is corrected, Save remains locked.
- “This template does not provide enough room for the unsaved speed-dial or busy-lamp-field keys.” First save the open entries or select a number of lines with more free keys.
- “The CUCM line mode could not be read unambiguously. EasyUC displays five keys as a precaution; please check the phone vendor configuration.” Set the line mode of the phone unambiguously in the CUCM.
- Note on assigned lines that are not visible in the current button template: the phone has more lines than line keys. Increase the number of lines or remove lines.
- “This device has not set any line”: first assign a number to the first line key.
