Naming rules for lines

Templates for the display name, alerting name, line text label and description of phone lines.

EasyUC · Version 4.8.7

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Administration → CUCM & Provisioning → CUCM Connections → Actions → Line naming

Purpose

Every line in the CUCM carries several names: the display name that the called party sees, the alerting name during ringing, the line text label on the line key and a description for administration. EasyUC fills these fields from the templates in this dialog when it creates a line.

A template consists of fixed text and placeholders in double curly braces. EasyUC replaces them with the data of the user and the device. For the ASCII variants, EasyUC converts umlauts and special characters into ASCII characters. The CUCM uses these variants for phones and remote parties that cannot display special characters.

Saving does not change existing lines. The rules take effect when EasyUC creates a line. If CUCM Changes is switched on, EasyUC also sets the names again as soon as the data of a user changes in the CUCM.

Prerequisites

  • License with the cucm module and the provisioning feature. Without provisioning, the entry is missing from the Actions menu.
  • EasyUC account with the ROLE_APP_ADMIN role. Only administrators see the Administration menu.
  • The CUCM connection has been created and enabled. For a disabled connection, Actions shows only Enable Connection.
  • The user data in the CUCM (first name, last name, department) is maintained. Empty fields result in empty parts of the name.

Step by step

  1. In the header, select the EasyUC Cisco workspace.
  2. In the menu, open Administration → CUCM & Provisioning → CUCM Connections. The Manage CUCM Connections page lists all connections.
  3. In the row of the connection you want, click Actions. The Menu popover opens.
  4. Click Line Naming. The Line naming dialog opens.
  5. Read the list of placeholders in the information box at the top.
  6. Under Display Name and ASCII Display Name, enter the template for the name that the remote party sees.
  7. Under Alerting Name and ASCII Alerting Name, enter the template for the name during ringing.
  8. Under Line Text Label, enter the label of the line key.
  9. Under Description, enter the template for the line description.
  10. If certain words in the result are to be replaced, click Add in the Replace Naming Values area and fill in Text To Replace and Text To Replace With.
  11. Click Save (top right or at the bottom of the dialog). The dialog closes and EasyUC shows a success message (“Success”). Cancel closes the dialog without changes.
  12. Create a phone for a test user and check the line in the CUCM.

`{{deviceName}}`Device name in the CUCM, for example SEP… or BOT….
`{{phoneNumber}}`Phone number. Only digits and the plus sign are used.
`{{location}}`Location of the user.

Check the result and narrow down errors

  • Success: A newly created line shows the expected values in the CUCM. For Eva Beispiel from the Sales department, {{firstName}} {{lastName}}, {{department}} becomes “Eva Beispiel, Sales”.
  • Message “This value should not be blank.”: All six templates are required. Every replacement row also needs both values.
  • A name is cut off: EasyUC shortens to the length stated above. Shorten the template, for example with {{1FirstLetterFirstName}}. instead of {{firstName}}.
  • The ASCII name contains “ae” instead of “ä”: This is the transliteration for the ASCII fields.
  • Existing lines remain unchanged: Saving does not rename anything. Check the rules on a newly created line.
