CUCM connection options

Entering node addresses manually

Assign an IP address or a resolvable host name to a CUCM node.

EasyUC · Version 4.8.7

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Dashboard → “CUCM Information” tile → node card → Address…

What it is for

EasyUC addresses every CUCM node by the name under which it is entered in the CUCM. If that is a short name the appliance cannot resolve, the node card shows Name not resolvable, and utilization values as well as “Details (SSH)” are missing for this node.

With Address… you enter an IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) or a resolvable host name per node. The name remains the identifier of the node; the address is only the target of the connection. It applies to “Details (SSH)” and to the query of the CUCM Information tile (services, version, utilization of the node). AXL continues to run through the AXL URL of the connection.

For the tile query, EasyUC sends the AXL user of the connection to the address. The tile therefore uses an address only after an administrator has released it. The permanent solution remains a DNS entry, or the IP address or FQDN as the server name in the CUCM.

Prerequisites

  • Permission Change SSH credentials (ROLE_APP_CUCM_NODE_DETAILS_EDIT), which also requires View CUCM node details (SSH) (ROLE_APP_CUCM_NODE_DETAILS). Administrators (ROLE_APP_ADMIN) have both permissions.
  • Releasing an address for the tile is reserved for administrators.
  • License with the cucm module, access to the Dashboard, and the CUCM connection is selected in the header.
  • The Address… button appears on nodes whose name is not an IP address and on nodes that already have an address entered.

Step by step

  1. In the header, select the EasyUC Cisco workspace and the CUCM connection.
  2. In the menu, open Dashboard.
  3. In the CUCM Information tile, click Address… on the card of the node. The same button is available at the top of the node's Details (SSH) page.
  4. The Address of CUCM node … dialog shows the Name and, under In use, whether the name or a manual address currently applies.
  5. Under IP address or host name, enter the address without a port and without https://, for example 192.0.2.25 or cucm-sub01.intern.
  6. Click Save. If you are an administrator, this also releases the address for the tile.
  7. Then open Details (SSH) of the node, enter the SSH password again and click Test connection. Only then does EasyUC use the stored credentials for the new address.
  8. To remove the address, open the dialog again, click Reset and confirm with Yes, reset. The name then applies again.

Step by step: releasing the address of a helpdesk user

  1. If a user without an administrator role enters an address, the node card shows manual and Release pending. “Details (SSH)” uses the address immediately; the tile does not yet.
  2. Sign in as an administrator and open Dashboard.
  3. On the card of the node, click Address….
  4. Check the address entered.
  5. Click Save and release.

Fields and options

Fields and options
Field / actionMeaning and use
NameName of the node from the CUCM. Cannot be changed; it remains the identifier for credentials, measured values and log entries.
In usethe name or the manual address with the suffix “(manual)”, where applicable with Release pending.
IP address or host nameRequired. IPv4, IPv6 or host name, at most 188 characters. Not allowed: port, https://, path, loopback, link-local and multicast addresses, and localhost. Private networks are allowed.
Save / Save and releaseSaves the address. Save and release appears for administrators when a release is pending.
ResetRemoves the manual address. The stored key of this address is discarded; stored passwords must then be confirmed again.
CancelCloses the dialog without any change.

Checking the result and narrowing down errors

  • Success: the node card shows the address with the suffix manual. After the next query, Name not resolvable disappears, and services, version and utilization appear.
  • “Invalid address (no port, no "https://")”: enter only the address or host name.
  • “This address is not allowed.”: the address falls into a blocked range, for example loopback.
  • “This address already belongs to another node.”: the address is known as the name or manual address of another node. For subscribers, the AXL address of the publisher is rejected as well.
  • “Same as the name – use "Reset" to remove it.”: the entry is identical to the node name.
  • If Release pending remains, no administrator has saved the address yet.
  • The log collection, the CUCM audit log, the display of active calls and the device registration continue to address CUCM nodes by their names. For these functions, the name must be resolvable.
  • Every change to an address is recorded in the audit log.
