Locations, number ranges and permissions

Locations define which numbers, packages, CSS and languages EasyUC uses during creation.

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Administration → CUCM & Provisioning → Locations → Create

Images come from the EasyUC lab. Names and example values provide orientation. A different interface language is indicated beside the relevant image.

What it is for

In EasyUC, a location groups everything that is the same at one site: the allowed number ranges, the assigned packages with their templates, time zone and language, and the calling search spaces for calling permissions and call forwarding. When you create a user, a phone or a group, you select the location first. EasyUC derives from it which numbers are free and which CUCM values are set.

An EasyUC location does not create a separate object in the CUCM itself. The location refers to existing CUCM objects (calling search spaces, partitions, service profiles, voicemail profiles). The number ranges go into the EasyUC number plan. Large ranges are created by the hourly number plan job.

Each CUCM connection uses one of two location types: number ranges (default) or a custom enduser attribute. In the second case, EasyUC assigns users through attribute values and device pools, and the number format fields are omitted.

Prerequisites

  • Role ROLE_APP_ADMIN. The interface shows the Administration menu only with this role.
  • The cucm module is enabled. Without this module the interface locks the page.
  • An active CUCM connection is selected in the header. The page always works with this connection.
  • At least one package exists if the location is to be used for provisioning right away.
  • The required calling search spaces, partitions, UC service profiles and voicemail profiles exist in the CUCM.
  • The number ranges have been agreed. From and To have the same number of digits, and a range contains 1,000,000 numbers at most.

Step by step: creating a location

  1. Select the EasyUC Cisco workspace in the header.
  2. In the menu, open Administration → CUCM & Provisioning → Locations. The page is called Manage Locations.
  3. Click Create. The Create Location dialog opens.
  4. Under Type, select the number format: Normal, Right Digits, Change Prefix or Right Digits Add Prefix. Depending on the type, the fields Right Digits, Left Digits and Prefix Change appear. The dialog immediately shows a worked example.
  5. Enter the Name of the location.
  6. In the Packages section, select the packages of the location and, under Default Package, the preselected package.
  7. In the Number Ranges section, click Add and enter From and To. Below the fields, Numbers in this range shows the calculated count.
  8. For each range, tick Check for Translation Pattern/Route Pattern and Use for automatically insert if required. With Use a shorter Range for automatically insert? you limit automatic assignment to a subrange.
  9. Select Timezone, Language and Softphone client.
  10. If required, enable UC Service Profile Settings and select the profiles separately for users with and without voicemail.
  11. Under Calling Permission, click Add, assign a Name and select the calling search space under Select CSS. Repeat this for every permission level.
  12. Under Call Forwarding CSS Settings, select the calling search spaces. With use for all you apply one value to all seven fields, with use for unselected only to the empty ones.
  13. Fill in Hunt Group Queue and Hunt Group Forward if required.
  14. Tick Enable Multiline Support? if phones at this location are to receive additional lines, and select the number.
  15. Click Save. The dialog closes and the location appears in the list.

Step by step: changing a location, assigning packages, CSV

  1. Click Edit in the row of the location. The edit dialog additionally contains the field User Template for Device Creation.
  2. Click Manage Packages to change only Packages and Default Package, and confirm with Save.
  3. Click Export CSV at the top to obtain all locations as a file.
  4. Click Import CSV. The dialog Import NEW CSV File shows the required column order and, after the file is selected, a preview per row. Save starts the import. Faulty rows offer skip and retry.
  5. With Location/Phone Template Wizard you create locations from existing device pools. The location dialog then additionally shows Save and Create Phone Templates.
  6. With Delete you remove a location after the prompt This location will be deleted.

Checking the result and narrowing down errors

  • For each location the list shows the language, time zone, number ranges with From and To, and the packages. The default package carries the suffix Default.
  • Message To value need to be higher than From value: From and To are swapped.
  • Message To value need to have the same number of digits as From value: align the number of digits, for example 10000 to 99999.
  • Message A range may contain at most 1,000,000 numbers: split the range.
  • The location is missing in a creation form: check whether a package is assigned to it. Several forms offer only locations with a package.
  • New numbers are missing in the number plan: for large ranges, wait for the next hourly run and check under Administration → System & Operations → Background Jobs.
  • Time-controlled functions run at the wrong time: the time zone is still set to the default value UTC.
