Creating and restoring a database backup

Back up, download, upload and restore the MariaDB database in the Manager.

What it is for

The database backup is a physical backup of MariaDB. It contains everything EasyUC stores in the database: users, devices, templates, settings, ACD configuration. Creating it does not suspend the instance, so it is suitable for running operation and for short intervals.

Files (recordings, announcements, music on hold, CDR files) and the CDR history in Elasticsearch are not included. The full backup covers those. The database backup is not encrypted; protect copies accordingly.

During a restore the licence is never taken from the backup. The licence of this appliance is kept.

Prerequisites

A login to the Manager.
The EasyUC installation is ready (status Ready). While another backup or restore is running, the Manager rejects further runs.
For uploading an external file: a local backup already exists. The formats .xb and .bz2 are allowed.
For the restore: a maintenance window.

Step by step: create and download a backup

Open the Übersicht page in the Manager.
On the EasyUC card, go to the area Datenbank-Backup (nur DB).
Select Backup erstellen and confirm the prompt with Ja. The previous database backup is replaced.
Wait until the backup appears in the table with Status Ready. The table shows Backup Name, Status, Timestamp and Version.
In the Actions column, select the Download icon and store the file outside the appliance.

Step by step: restore a backup

If needed, first upload an external file with Backup hochladen. If the file name contains no EasyUC version, the interface asks for it; enter the version the backup was created with and select Hochladen.
In the table, select the Wiederherstellen icon for the required backup and confirm the prompt.
Follow the run "Wiederherstellung aus …": Instanz stilllegen, Lizenz dieser Appliance sichern, Datenbank aus dem Backup wiederherstellen, Auf MariaDB warten, Datenbank-Migrationen abwarten, Lizenz zurueckschreiben, Lizenz pruefen, Instanz freigeben.
Wait for "Datenbank wiederhergestellt, Instanz freigegeben."
Log in to the admin interface and check data and licence.

Field / action	Meaning and use
Backup erstellen	Creates a new database backup. One backup is kept on the appliance; the next one replaces the previous one.
Backup hochladen	Uploads a file in `.xb` or `.bz2` format. Full backups (`.eucbak`) are rejected here.
Version	EasyUC version the backup was created with. Without a version a backup cannot be restored.
Fortsetzen	Resumes an interrupted run at the step boundary, for example when the migrations took longer than the waiting time. Requires the password.
Trotzdem wiederherstellen	Appears when the licence table of the current database cannot be read. Requires the confirmation "Ich bestaetige den Restore auf eine defekte Datenbank" and the Manager password.
Admin-Override: Stilllegung aufheben	Lifts the suspension when a run can no longer be resumed. Requires a reason and the Manager password; a running restore is aborted.
Lizenz (Fall …)	Shows how the licence was handled after the restore. Without a purchased licence there is a one-time restore licence valid for 7 days.
DB sichern & uebertragen	Button on the Sicherung page: creates a database backup and transfers it to the remote target.

Check the result and troubleshoot

The backup is listed in the table with timestamp, version and status Ready.
"No backups available – Create your first backup to get started": no backup has been created yet.
"Die Instanz bleibt stillgelegt, bis der Lauf fortgesetzt wird.": the run stopped after the database was replaced. Select Fortsetzen.
"Lizenztabelle der aktuellen Datenbank nicht lesbar": the existing database is probably damaged. Trotzdem wiederherstellen rebuilds the licence from the licence file of the appliance or replaces it with the one-time restore licence.
Errors before the step "Datenbank aus dem Backup wiederherstellen" release the instance by themselves. Nothing was changed.
If announcements or recordings are missing after the restore, this is due to the scope: the database backup contains no files. Use the full backup for that.
Parts of this card are German and write umlauts as ae, oe and ue; the table has English labels.
