SMTP and e-mail delivery

Store the mail server through which EasyUC sends notifications and sign-in codes.

EasyUC · Version 4.8.7

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Administration → System & Operations → System Configuration → SMTP Configuration

What it is for

EasyUC sends e-mails through an SMTP server that you enter here. It is used for the event mails to users (for example after a phone has been created), the codes for two-factor sign-in, error messages from webhooks and scheduled reports.

There is exactly one SMTP configuration for the entire installation. When you save, EasyUC opens a test connection to the mail server. If it fails, nothing is saved.

Prerequisites

  • An account with the access type Administrator (full access) (ROLE_APP_ADMIN) or the owner account (ROLE_OWNER). Only these accounts see the Administration menu.
  • Host name or address of the mail server, port and the permitted connection security.
  • A sender address that the mail server accepts for this system.
  • If the mail server requires authentication: user name and password of a sending account.
  • The mail server can be reached from the EasyUC server.

Step by step: entering the mail server

  1. Open the EasyUC Cisco workspace.
  2. Select Administration → System & Operations → System Configuration → SMTP Configuration.
  3. Switch on Enable. The remaining fields appear only then.
  4. Under Host, enter the mail server, for example mail.intern.
  5. If the server requires authentication, switch on Credentials and fill in Username, Password and Retype Password.
  6. Under Connection Security, select the entry Secure or Not Secure.
  7. Enter the Port and, under From, the sender address.
  8. Click Save. On success the message Success appears.

Step by step: testing delivery

  1. After saving, click Send Test E-Mail. The button appears only when the configuration is enabled and saved.
  2. In the window Send Test Email, enter the recipient address. The field is labelled To.
  3. Click Send.
  4. Check that the message arrives in the mailbox, including the spam folder.

Checking the result and narrowing down errors

  • Success: message Success after saving and a test e-mail in the mailbox.
  • Saving fails and shows an error message from the mail server: EasyUC cannot reach the server or the authentication is rejected. Check the host, port, connection security and credentials as well as firewall rules between EasyUC and the mail server.
  • If you changed the host or port or switched to Not Secure, you have to enter the password again. EasyUC does not send a stored password to a different server.
  • The connection is established but mails do not arrive: the mail server rejects the sender or the recipient. Check the log of the mail server and the address under From.
  • Which events trigger a mail and what it contains is defined under E-mail Notification.
