Editing, controlling and replacing phones

Actions per phone: MAC swap, location change, type change, control, restart and deletion.

EasyUC · Version 4.8.7

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Devices → Phones → Actions

Images come from the EasyUC lab. Names and example values provide orientation. A different interface language is indicated beside the relevant image.

What it is for

The Manage Phones page lists the phones of the active CUCM connection. For each row you see the registration status, the phone numbers, whether Extension Mobility is active and who is logged in. Via Actions you change a single device without opening the CUCM administration.

EasyUC writes the changes to the CUCM via AXL. A MAC swap renames the device, a location change applies the template of the new location, and a restart or reset is sent to the phone by the CUCM. Which actions appear depends on your role, on the model and on the state of the device.

A click on a row opens the Phone Profile with the tabs Overview, Phone numbers, Groups, Call list and Registration History. The same actions are available there as buttons.

Prerequisites

  • License module cucm and an active CUCM connection.
  • Menu item Phones: role ROLE_APP_VIEW_PHONE_PAGE. The phone profile opens only with ROLE_APP_VIEW_PHONE_PROFILE.
  • The Actions button appears if you have at least one of these roles: ROLE_APP_UPDATE_DEVICE, ROLE_APP_CREATE_DEVICE, ROLE_APP_DELETE_DEVICE, ROLE_APP_DEVICE_EM, ROLE_APP_LIST_DEVICE_REGISTRATION.
  • For Control Me: phone control is activated at the CUCM connection and the phone is registered.
  • For Make it Secure: phone security is activated at the CUCM connection and released for individual devices.
  • For Move to Location/Package and Convert Phone Type: the target location has a matching template for the model.

Step by step: finding a phone and opening the actions

  1. Open EasyUC Cisco → Devices → Phones.
  2. Narrow down the list with the filters Device Name, Device Description, Phone Number, Location, Device Pools or Device Models. The text filters search automatically after a short pause.
  3. Check the device name and the marker at the top left of the row. It shows the status from the CUCM, green for registered devices.
  4. In the Actions column, click Actions and select the required entry.
  5. For the detail view, click the row instead. At the top of the Phone Profile you find Refresh, Restart, Reset, Delete and Back.

Step by step: replacing a phone (MAC address)

  1. At the old device, open Actions → Update MAC Address.
  2. In the MAC Address field, enter the address of the new phone. The prefix of the device name, for example SEP, is kept.
  3. Click Save. EasyUC renames the device in the CUCM. Lines, buttons and user assignment stay on the device.
  4. Connect the new phone and check in the list whether it registers.

Step by step: changing location, package or phone type

  1. For a relocation, open Actions → Move to Location/Package.
  2. Select the Location. Package appears next, followed by Template. Only templates for the model of the device are offered.
  3. Click Save. EasyUC applies the settings of the selected template to the existing device.
  4. For a different model, open Actions → Convert Phone Type.
  5. Select Location and Package, then, in the Create a new Phone area, the Model, the Template and the MAC Address of the new device.
  6. If the note This device already exists appears, check the lines and end users shown. Tick Should EasyUC really use this phone for the current User? only if the existing device is to be taken over.
  7. Click Save. The new device takes over the lines of the previous device.

Step by step: controlling a phone, setting a background image, deleting CTL/ITL

  1. Open Actions → Control Me. The Phone Control dialog prepares the phone. If consent is required at the connection, the user must answer the prompt on the phone with Yes.
  2. Wait until the screen of the phone appears in the dialog. Click the drawn keys to press them on the phone.
  3. For a call, enter the number in Number to Dial and click Call. The phone actually dials the number.
  4. With Enlarge screen the dialog shows only the display with the line keys and softkeys; with Whole phone it shows the full drawing again.
  5. For a background image, open the yellow menu Actions → Upload Background in the dialog, select an image file under Image and click Upload. EasyUC scales the image to the display size of the model.
  6. Actions → Delete CTL/ITL Files removes the trust lists on the phone. Confirm the prompt only if the phone no longer trusts the CUCM. The phone restarts afterwards.
  7. Close the dialog with Close. EasyUC then ends the session on the phone.

Step by step: restart, reset, removing a line and deleting

  1. Select Actions → Restart or Actions → Reset. Read the note in the dialog and confirm with the green button Yes, Restart it or Yes, reset.
  2. To remove an additional line, open Actions → Phone Buttons Support and click Remove at the line button. The first line does not have this button.
  3. In the Remove Line dialog, select what happens to the number and click Save.
  4. To delete, select Actions → Delete. If the device is the last phone of a number, the dialog shows This is the last device for this line.
  5. Tick Should EasyUC also delete this line? only if the number is no longer needed.
  6. Confirm with Yes, delete it. The deleted device then appears under Devices → Restore Phones.

Check the result and troubleshoot

  • After each action the list shows the new state. In the phone profile, Refresh reloads the data.
  • An action is missing in the menu: check role, model and state. Control Me is missing for unregistered devices and when phone control is switched off. Make it Secure is missing if phone security is not released per device.
  • Message Please enter mac address or Not a valid mac address: the address is empty or does not have 12 hexadecimal characters.
  • Message This device already exists during a MAC swap: a device with this name already exists in the CUCM. Delete it or check the address.
  • Message No Soft Phones found with Set as Primary: the user has no softphone.
  • Restart and reset only take effect on registered devices. The dialog points out that phones wait until active calls have ended.
  • Note This device is already secure with Make it Secure: confirm only if the security data is to be written again.
  • Errors in phone control, for example No connection to the phone., are explained in the chapter on remote control.
