EasyUC for Cisco

Shared phones, video, softphones and device profiles

Create shared phones, video devices, softphones and device profiles, and log profiles in.

EasyUC · Version 4.8.7

In EasyUC: EasyUC Cisco → Devices → Shared Phones / Video Devices; Users → User profile

What it is for

Besides the personal desk phone, EasyUC knows four further device types. A Shared Phone is an IP phone that is assigned to several end users, for example at reception. A Video Device is a room or desk system with its own template type. Soft Phones are Jabber or Webex App clients for PC, iPhone, Android and tablet. A Device Profile is not a device but a profile for Extension Mobility: the user logs in to a phone with it and gets their number and buttons there.

The Shared Phones page also shows all numbers that are used by at least two different users. For each user you see their devices and the line position of the number on them. This way you find shared lines without opening every phone individually.

Prerequisites

  • The license module cucm is installed, and the correct CUCM connection is selected.
  • Roles for the pages: ROLE_APP_VIEW_SHARED_PHONE_PAGE for Shared Phones, ROLE_APP_VIEW_VIDEO_DEVICE_PAGE for Video Devices. For creating, ROLE_APP_CREATE_DEVICE in each case.
  • For logging in a device profile: ROLE_APP_ENDUSER_EM (from the user profile) or ROLE_APP_DEVICE_EM (from the phone). Enabling Extension Mobility on the phone requires ROLE_APP_UPDATE_DEVICE.
  • Classic mode: the package of the location contains a template of the matching type (phone, video device, softphone, device profile). Template 2.0: models and softphone types are configured and released for the location.
  • For softphones and device profiles, the end user must exist in the CUCM. For the login, the user must be homed on this cluster (home cluster) and the phone must have Extension Mobility enabled.

Step by step: creating a phone for multiple users

  1. Open EasyUC Cisco → Devices → Shared Phones.
  2. Click Phone for multiple users at the top right. The Create Shared Device dialog opens.
  3. In the Endusers field, select all persons who use the phone. Multiple selection is possible.
  4. Enter the Phone number or use Choose a number or Get Free phone number.
  5. Select the Location. After that, Package and Phone Number Information appear.
  6. If the number is in use, the block shows end users, phone lines and phones. Tick the confirmation only if the number is to be shared deliberately.
  7. Select Package, Model and, in classic mode, the Template.
  8. Enter the MAC Address or tick Activation Code.
  9. Check Enduser Settings and click Save.
  10. Check the result in the list. The switch Also show numbers that only one user has on several devices extends the view.

Step by step: creating a video device

  1. Open EasyUC Cisco → Devices → Video Devices.
  2. Click Create. The Create Video Device dialog opens.
  3. Select No Enduser, Existing Enduser or Create new Enduser. No Enduser is preselected.
  4. Enter the Phone number and select the Location.
  5. Select Package, then the Model and the Template for video devices.
  6. Enter the MAC Address. With No Enduser, also fill in Line/Device Naming.
  7. With Create new Enduser, fill in the Enduser block.
  8. Click Save. The button stays disabled as long as the form is invalid.

Step by step: creating a softphone for a user

  1. Open the user profile under EasyUC Cisco → Users → Users and click Create in the Devices card. Alternatively, open Devices → Phones → Create and select Existing Enduser.
  2. Check Phone number, Location and Package.
  3. The Soft Phones card appears on the right. At the top it shows the client of the location: Jabber or Webex App.
  4. Tick the desired tiles, for example Jabber for Windows/MAC or Webex App for iPhone.
  5. Tiles marked exists cannot be selected because the user already has this client. Tiles marked Not released or No template cannot be ordered at the location.
  6. Click Save. Each tile shows its status. Softphones are created after the IP phones of the same order.

Step by step: creating a device profile

  1. Open the Create Device dialog from the user profile or with Existing Enduser from the phone list.
  2. Check Phone number, Location and Package.
  3. In the Devices card, click Device Profile. The button is only active with an existing end user.
  4. Select the Model and, in classic mode, the Template for device profiles. In Template 2.0 it shows Template 2.0 – this location’s configuration is applied automatically.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Alternatively: in the Numberplan, select Actions → Add Device Profile on a free number. The Create Device Profile dialog offers Existing Enduser and Create new Enduser and asks for phone number, location, package, model and template.

Step by step: logging a device profile in to a phone

  1. Open the user profile and click Login to Phone in the Devices card. The Login dialog with the name of the user lists the phones.
  2. Find the target phone. The EM Enabled? column shows whether Extension Mobility is enabled on the phone. The Logged User column shows an existing login.
  3. Click Login in the row and select the device profile. If the user does not have one yet, it shows Add Device Profile.
  4. Confirm the prompt Are you sure?. The text names the user and the phone.
  5. If the user is already logged in to another phone and multiple logins are not allowed on the connection, the prompt points this out. If you confirm, EasyUC logs the user out there and in to the new phone.
  6. The reverse way, from the phone: open Devices → Phones, select Actions → Login User on the phone and then the user. If Extension Mobility is off on the phone, it first shows Enable EM.
  7. Logging out: in the phone profile, the Logged User card shows the user with their profile. Click Logout next to the profile name and confirm.

Check the result and troubleshoot

  • Shared phone: it appears on Shared Phones under its number with all users. Gray status dots mean “unknown”, not “not registered”, if the registration status could not be queried.
  • No shared lines found. or No shared line matches the current filter.: reset the search with Reset filters or switch on the display of numbers of a single user.
  • Softphone tile shows No template: there is neither a button template in Template 2.0 nor a template in the package. Add the template or the location configuration.
  • Softphone tile shows Not released: the softphone type is not permitted for the location. It is released in the Template 2.0 configuration of the location.
  • Device Profile button disabled: tooltip Device profiles can only be created for an existing end user. Select Existing Enduser and a person.
  • Login to Phone is disabled or shows the note Enduser home cluster disabled: the user is not listed in the CUCM as a local user of this cluster. A login is then not possible.
  • Login User is missing on the phone: Extension Mobility is off on the device. Select Actions → Enable EM and confirm.
  • The older MS Teams tile in the dialog belongs to the Teams integration of the CUCM connection. It is not the SBC and tenant management in the EasyUC Teams workspace.
